Manufacturing Quality Pack Deformation Simulator

Deformation Simulator

Validate your tolerance strategy before the first chip is cut.

Deformation Simulator helps you to catch bad machining assumptions in software, not on the shop floor.

In most shops, you only find out what's wrong after machining the first parts.

You machine.
You measure.
You find deviations.
You adjust.
You try again.

That loop costs machine time, material, and weeks of industrialization — every cycle.

The problem isn’t the machine. It’s that the tolerance strategy was never validated before production started.

Deformation Simulator — Metrolog CMM Software — Metrologic DCS

Deformation Simulator — Metrolog CMM Software Animation illustrating the Deformation Simulator module in Metrolog. A red reference line detects surface deformation on a measured part; the blue wave overlay shows the corrected flatness deviation. A second red frame identifies angular deformation on a slot feature; the orange dashed overlay shows the corrected orientation. Metrologic DCS CMM measurement software automatically compensates for part deformation during inspection.
Metrolog Deformation Simulator automatically detects and compensates for part deformation — flatness deviation and angular slot misalignment — during CMM inspection. Part of Metrologic DCS manufacturing quality software suite.
Anticipate

Test what will go wrong
before you cut anything

Deformation Simulator applies the same geometric defect types you’ll measure on the real part — form, size, orientation, position — directly on your nominal CAD model. It runs the full GD&T inspection on the simulated part, inside Metrolog.

You see exactly which tolerances break, under which conditions, before committing to production.

Anticipate instead of react

Fewer physical tryouts

Validate machining assumptions in software before committing machine time and material.

First-part-right results

Catch risky tolerance strategies before production starts. No surprises on the shop floor.

Faster industrialization

Compress the gap between design freeze and stable production by removing physical validation loops.

Not an additional tool

It runs inside Metrolog. No file export, no translation, no new environment to set up.

See it on a real part

Watch how a methods engineer runs a complete deformation scenario — from CAD import to inspection result — without producing a single physical part.

Three steps inside Metrolog.
Zero physical parts.

1

Open the Deformation module

Select your part surface and define the deformation profile. No additional setup — it uses your existing part geometry and coordinate system.

2

Define and apply your deformation scenarios

Set the type of deformation, form amplitude, offset, position and orientation, translation and rotation axes. Combine parameters to simulate your worst-case machining conditions with precision.

3

Generate the simulated cloud and run inspection

Deformation Simulator generates a point cloud based on the simulated deformations — and from there, produces the probing strategy for the inspection plan. Run the GD&T measurement virtually. Results appear directly on your part geometry, using the same logic as a real Metrolog inspection.

Built for the teams who define how parts get made

Design Engineer

You define tolerances. Deformation Simulator tells you whether they’re achievable under real manufacturing conditions — before a single part is machined. Validate your GD&T strategy numerically, without waiting for production feedback.

Methods Engineer

You plan the machining strategy. Deformation Simulator validates your assumptions numerically and replaces costly first-article iterations with in-software analysis — so you reach stable production faster.

Stop guessing. Start simulating.

See Deformation Simulator on your own parts.

Deformation Simulator is one piece of the loop

The Manufacturing Quality Pack connects three modules into one continuous workflow. Each one works standalone — and works better together.

MODULE 2 — CORRECT

Machining Corrector

Transform measured deviations into CNC corrections automatically. Predictive Mode shows how the next part will measure before you run it. No trial-and-error.

MODULE 3 — UNDERSTAND

Decomposition Analyzer

Break down any deviation into form, size, orientation, and position — in one click, in 3D, directly on the part geometry. Based on ISO 20170.
