The Industrial Challenge

Savoy Moulage, a Savoy International subsidiary specializing in technical plastic injection and tooling design, is a long-standing Metrologic DCS customer. Its metrology department needed to:

  • Maintain and transfer a large library of 3D measurement programs across CMM generations.
  • Cut down offline programming time for each new part reference.
  • Speed up inspection cycles without sacrificing accuracy or repeatability.
  • Capture more part features to support tooling retouching decisions.
Today, thanks to Metrologic DCS, Savoy Moulage has succeeded in solving all its challenges related to precision and productivity, which can be complex when you have several machines.

Integrated Technology Synergy

Metrolog Metrologic DCS
Universal 3D metrology software for full program continuity

A single, universal 3D measurement software compatible with any CMM brand lets Savoy Moulage carry its entire program library across machine generations and drive 5-axis point measurement with the PH20 head. Learn more about Metrolog.

Silma Metrologic DCS
Offline programming and digital twin simulation

Metrologists prepare and simulate 3D inspection programs on a virtual twin before parts arrive on the CMM, using CAD files to cut configuration time and guarantee collision-free routines with Silma.

PH20 Renishaw
5-axis contact head for faster point measurement

Fitted on a Wenzel CMM, the PH20 5-axis head lets Savoy Moulage capture more points, faster and with greater repeatability, while cutting CMM calibration time from hours to about thirty minutes.

All these different stages now enable Savoy Moulage to meet increasingly precise customer requirements, and to guarantee our measurements and process reliability throughout the life of the product.

Operational Impact & Results

Inspection time divided by three

Switching to 5-axis point measurement with the PH20 head cut execution time on most programs threefold compared to 3-axis measurement, with greater precision and repeatability.

Calibration cut to under 30 minutes

5-axis calibration replaces the several hours once needed on conventional 3-axis machines, allowing more frequent calibration across the CMM fleet.

Full program continuity across CMM generations

The entire measurement program database was migrated when Savoy Moulage upgraded its CMM, preserving fifteen years of metrology know-how.

Faster offline program preparation

Using CAD files, metrologists now prepare measurement programs before the part arrives on the shop floor, cutting configuration time.

More part features captured for tooling retouching

The PH20 head's positioning flexibility lets Savoy Moulage collect a higher volume of points per part, feeding more precise tooling adjustments.

Offline Programming and Digital Twin Simulation

Silma offline programming environment at Savoy Moulage

Before Silma, program preparation ate into time better spent measuring. Now, metrologists build and simulate each 3D inspection program offline using the part’s CAD file, well before it reaches the CMM — including a metrological analysis of tomography and rheology files through point cloud comparison.

«These files from these different resources enable us to measure the part directly and carry out a metrological analysis.»

Cutting Measurement Time with 5-Axis Technology

Wenzel CMM with Renishaw PH20 5-axis head at Savoy Moulage

In 2022, Savoy Moulage added a Wenzel CMM equipped with Renishaw’s PH20 5-axis contact system, driven by Metrolog. The company chose point measurement over scanning, since tooling retouching depends on points distributed precisely across the part geometry — a natural fit for 5-axis measurement.

The PH20 head’s infinite positioning also gives Savoy Moulage access to more features per part, capturing a higher volume of points with greater detail for tooling adjustments. Calibration, once several hours per machine on a conventional 3-axis fleet, now takes about thirty minutes — making frequent recalibration realistic across the whole shop floor.

A Trusted, Decade-Long Partnership

Metrologic DCS and Savoy Moulage teams on site

Savoy Moulage has been a local Metrologic DCS customer for over ten years, a relationship built on responsiveness and continuous improvement. Its metrology department gets annual, customized training that tracks every software update, keeping the team current as the platform evolves.

«I’m very proud to support Savoy Moulage in their current challenges.»
— Alexandre Goupy, Sales Manager Eastern France & Switzerland, Metrologic DCS

Scaling 5-Axis Across Savoy International

Savoy Moulage production floor ambitions

Beyond its French site, Savoy Moulage is rolling out the same industrial culture at Savoy International sites in Tunisia, Morocco, and Romania, gradually integrating 3D precision measurement so that series production repeats the same checks defined during tooling development.

«We want to keep developing 5-axis technology, together with Metrologic DCS.»
— Yoann Bourgerie, Director of the Plastics Molding Cluster, Savoy International
