REVO-2 Implementation
Safran Landing Systems Mirabel manufactures medium and large-size landing gear struts designed to withstand extreme operational stresses.
These massive structures undergo a quenching process that induces significant material distortions. Combined with deep cylinders and complex orientations, these features made traditional inspection using conventional indexable heads extremely difficult and inefficient.
The sheer volume of tolerances to be inspected resulted in a massive amount of data to be collected, leading to unsustainable cycle times on coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). To maintain its standard of quality excellence while meeting production cadences, Safran needed to overhaul its inspection workflows and find a solution capable of reducing cycle times by 50%.
By halving inspection times, parts are evaluated and cleared for subsequent production stages significantly faster, removing downstream bottlenecks.
The digital workflow ensures that critical non-conformity data is delivered instantly to the MRB, allowing for immediate engineering decision-making.
The transition to continuous 5-axis scanning has minimized operator interventions and manual setups, enabling more autonomous CMM operations.
Successfully completing the full migration of all gear strut components to REVO technology ensures a uniform, high-performance quality standard across the plant.
